How did you come to choose FAU to pursue a degree in math at FAU?
I chose FAU because I loved the campus and the opportunities at FAU were the best that I had. I was able to be a part of the honors program, and this allowed me the benefit of smaller classes while also still getting the big college experience. I got bright futures and other FAU academic scholarships, so I was able to get an amazing education for a really great price.
What attracted you to math? Why FAU?
I have loved mathematics my entire life. It has always been something that came easy to me but also was something I found joy in. I knew that the options with a mathematics degree would be endless because every field requires mathematics whether its stem based, or business/finance based. I love FAU's math department and that there were such a wide variety of classes offered to students.
Who are the faculty members that were most instrumental in guiding you in your research and your degree at FAU?
I have taken many courses with Dr. Motta and I really enjoyed all of them. These courses were not my specific field of choice since they were topology based but his teaching style and the content really made me enjoy these courses that I may not have enjoyed otherwise. I am not personally pursuing research however Dr. Pina is helping me prepare for my actuarial exam which will be beneficial for my future career.
Have you met life-long friends and colleagues here?
I have met many life-long friends and colleagues here at FAU. One of my best friends I met in the mathematics courses this past year, and I would not have met her otherwise. I love how much of a family the math department has become, and I've had multiple classes with the same people, and it has allowed us to become really close friends.
What will you do post-graduation?
I have a job lined up with an insurance company and I am super excited about it. I also plan to take the actuarial exam P and eventually become an actuary.
What clubs or leadership activities are you involved in at FAU?
I have been a part of many clubs in my time here at FAU. I was the treasurer's assistant for the National Organization for Women(NOW). I have been a part of PEP Talk, Prowlers, The Subversive Stitch, and the Community Service Club. I am currently the events coordinator for the FAU Math Club.
