The Charles E. Schmidt College of Science is pleased to announce that Stephen C. Locke, Ph.D., was appointed as chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Locke was serving as the interim chair of the department and is a distinguished member of the Schmidt College of Science, joining FAU in 1981.
Teresa Wilcox, Ph.D., interim dean, states, “Dr. Locke has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and we are fortunate that he is willing to serve again in this capacity after previously holding the chair position. We welcome Stephen into this role, and know he has already been hard at work advancing the department.”
Locke is also a professor of mathematical sciences, earning his Ph.D. in Combinatorics and Optimization from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He was formerly chair of the department from 2000 to 2003, and associate chair for over 20 years. He has over 40 publications in Graph Theory and was recently published in Combinatorial Game Theory.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my role as the chair, working with a dynamic and engaged team of faculty and staff, supporting and preparing the next generation of leaders, researchers, teachers, and problem solvers,” shares Locke.
