FAU Hosts the Southeastern Regional Learning Assistant (LA) Workshop
Florida Atlantic University hosted the Southeastern Regional Learning Assistant (LA) Workshop. In addition to presentations and panels with students and faculty on this approach to active learning, the workshop program included classroom visits in two calculus and a chemistry course taught with learning assistants. The meeting offered an outstanding opportunity to look at the details of this evidence-based teaching method. A special thank you to the Director of the Math Learning Center at FAU, Brittanney Amento-Adelmann, for bringing the LA model to the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Brittaney worked in collaboration with Associate Dean for Retention and Academic Support, Jennifer Bebergal, Ed.D., who helped make this workshop a resounding success. Provost, Bret Danilowicz, Ph.D., provided a warm welcome to the conference guests, and the College of Science Dean, Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., generously supported the workshop and its mission to bolster student success at the college.
