On March 14th, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics celebrated International Math Day (Pi Day) with a variety of engaging activities. Organized by student organizations—the FAU Math Club, AWM Chapter, and SIAM Chapter—the event featured an exciting Kahoot game, where graduate student Nathan secured first place.
An origami competition showcased mathematical creativity, with Nathan Blood and Dominic Dijan recognized for the best mathematical representation of π, Luke Carey for the most mathematically creative design, and Rosemary Yool-Vidal and Addisyn Randolf for the most creative representation overall. Winners of the competitions received book and puzzle prizes in recognition of their achievements.
The celebration continued with additional games and experiments, including a simulation of Buffon's Needle experiment. Attendees also enjoyed an assortment of pizzas, pies, and soft drinks, making the event both intellectually stimulating and delicious.
We extend our gratitude to all who joined us in celebrating the beauty of mathematics, and a special thank you to the organizers: Addisyn, Dominic, Luke, Morgan, Rosemary, and Shalini.
