Aysha Mohammed Nuhuman

Aysha Mohammed-Nuhuman named “Top Tutor of the Year!"

Ashya is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. She has completed her qualifying exams and is in her third year of graduate study, Fall 2026. Aysha has been tutoring since she was a sophomore in her undergraduate program at Washington & Jefferson in 2015. There, she started by tutoring Calculus 1, and she has been tutoring students in mathematics ever since!

In addition to teaching a course and working hard toward defending her dissertation, she currently tutors students for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Math Learning Center (MLC) on the Boca Raton Camps of Florida Atlantic University. One can find Aysha, and many of the other Ph.D. students, tutoring FAU students seeking help in a wide variety of math courses.

“ I love being able to offer a more approachable perspective on math. So often, students come in feeling stressed because they are solely focused on reaching the final answer. The actual process of problem-solving can certainly be difficult, but there is so much value in understanding the journey. My favorite part of tutoring is helping students step back, build their intuition, and discover the "why" behind a concept rather than just memorizing the "how."”

“Serving as a tutor and GTA has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my graduate experience, as guiding others constantly deepens my own mathematical foundation. There is truly nothing quite like witnessing a student's frustration turn into genuine confidence when a difficult topic finally clicks. Being a part of their growth fuels my own passion for the subject and deeply reinforces my lifelong dedication to teaching”

If you don’t know Aysha… Go to the MLC and meet her! She loves mathematics and is this year’s “Top Tutor” at the MLC! Her enthusiasm for math and bubbly personality make learning math fun!
