Coral Springs YMCA Judo Club is now independent of Tomodachi.

(We are a non-profit club and are within easy driving distance for Florida residents in Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, Lantana.)

Class fees at both sites are about $20 per month, and the student can attend more than 20 hours a month of this fee. Some of this goes into our general funds for supplies and events. In particular, we've bought mats for our tournaments, and paid for some of our students to register at national camps. All instructors volunteer their time.

For FAU students at the Jupiter campus, check out the classes offered by Sensei Jerry Dooley, rokkudan. Be prepared to work hard. He also has a product (see: http://www.theworkoutbuddy.com/) that he developed to help Judo players with their training.

Ju Jitsu

Several people have e-mailed me requesting locations of Ju Jitsu schools. Some of our club members have studied and are still studying Ju Jitsu. However, my club practices focus almost exclusively on Judo.

This should not be enough for a student who is really serious about studying Ju Jitsu, rather than Judo. That student should look for a traditional Ju Jitsu school.

In my opinion, the best in this area is Niseido® in Lake Worth, Florida. The instructor is Professor Rick Riccardi, Grand Master and 10th Dan Vee Jitsu Ryu Ju Jitsu, and the Grand Master and Founder of Niseido® Ju Jitsu. He also holds the rank of Yondan in Judo. If you want to sign up with him, be prepared to spend time on a waiting list. I believe he only takes adult students, although this may change in the future. (I wish I had time to study there.) His students do very well at our Judo tournaments.
