11.1 Simple substitution

Shift ciphers are like the Caesar cipher in which each letter is shifted by 3. On this interactive page you can view all 26 shift encipherings and decipherings of any text you choose.

Key-word ciphers are simple substitutions obtained by picking a key word, as described on page 270. (Actually, any simple substitution can be so obtained, as long as we are not to fussy as to what constitutes a "word".) On this page you can encipher and decipher any text with any substitution cipher.
